WhatsApp launched a new app for Windows users, removing the current version based on the developer’s popular mobile messaging platform.
The new version, which is still in beta, is based on a universal Windows 10 app, which means that it’s optimized for all devices running Microsoft’s latest operating system, including PCs, tablets, and phones.
The new WhatsApp app is available to download now from the Windows Store. The existing WhatsApp app for Windows users will continue to work for the time being, but WhatsApp says it will be discontinued at some point in the future.
“We’re working hard to improve WhatsApp for Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile, but we have decided to focus our attention on other platforms,” a WhatsApp blog post reads.
“This means that, for the time being, we will no longer be developing for these platforms.” The new WhatsApp app looks very similar to the existing app, but it’s been designed to take advantage of Windows 10’s new features, such as the Start menu and the Action Center.
It also supports Microsoft’s new “Continuum” feature, which lets you connect a Windows 10 phone to a monitor and keyboard and use it as a PC. The new WhatsApp app also supports push notifications, so you’ll be alerted when you have a new message, even if the app is closed.
The app is available in English, Spanish, German, French, and Portuguese. WhatsApp has more than 1 billion active users, and it’s one of the most popular messaging apps in the world. The app lets you send text messages, photos, videos, and voice messages to your friends and family for free, even if they’re in another country.
You can also make voice and video calls over the internet, using your phone’s data plan or a Wi-Fi connection.
WhatsApp Messenger, or simply WhatsApp, is an internationally available freeware, cross-platform centralized instant messaging (IM) and voice-over-IP (VoIP) service owned by American company Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook).
It allows users to send text and voice messages, make voice and video calls, and share images, documents, user locations, and other content.
WhatsApp’s client application runs on mobile devices and can be accessed from computers. The service requires a cellular mobile telephone number to sign up.
In January 2018, WhatsApp released a standalone business app called WhatsApp Business which can communicate with the standard WhatsApp client.
